Ballet Q-C finds 'Love on the Run'

For those who like dance in bite-size pieces, Ballet Quad Cities brings back a tasty buffet of "Love Stories" this weekend.

There are seven wildly varying romantic pieces on the program -- the company's first in Augustana College's Wallenberg Hall -- including new dances by five choreographers.

ROCK ISLAND -- The peach ballet shoes soon will wear out, but they're an extension of her body for now.

"I started pointe when I was 12 years old. They've been a part of my feet for a long time," Margaret Huling said.

Phillip Ollenburg

Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Phillip began his training with Milwaukee Ballet School at the age of four. He continued his training at Young Dance Academy under the instruction of Sandra Young, Lisa Opansky, Laura Faria Sciortino and Jennifer Ceider. Mr. Ollenburg then went on to study at the University of Iowa where he graduated with a B.S. in microbiology and a minor in dance. While in school Phillip was able to work under artists such as George de la Pena, Alan Sener, Deanna Carter, Bill Young and Donald McKayle as well as guest with the University of Iowa’s Dancers in Company performing George Balanchine’s Valse-Fantaisie. While in school he also pursued outside work with Duarte Dance Works and Kayle + Company, of which he was a founding member allowing him to perform original work at Link’s Hall in Chicago and Joyce SoHo in New York.  Phillip also was a guest dancer with the Dance Theatre of Iowa and Ballet Quad Cities where he was able to work one-on-one with Domingo Rubio. Mr. Ollenburg attended summer intensives under scholarship with Milwaukee Ballet School, Princeton Ballet School, Ballet Austin and the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. Since graduation Phillip spent a season with Ballet Austin where he appeared in Thang Dao’s Quiet Imprint and Stephen Mill’s The Nutcracker as the Rat King. In the summer of 2010 Mr. Ollenburg was an apprentice with River North Contemporary Dance Chicago under the direction of Frank Chaves. Last season Phillip was a company member of both Madison Ballet under the direction of W. Earl Smith and Minnesota Dance Theatre under the direction of Lise Houlton.
