Iona Newell

Iona Newell received her early training at Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, studying with director Jean Gedeon, Lizzanne McAdams, and Tamar Rachelle. She began her professional career in 1996, performing in The Nutcracker with North Carolina Dance Theatre directed by Jean Pierre Bonnefoux. She danced with the Louisville Ballet for three years then under the direction of Alun Jones and Helen Starr. The ballets in which she has danced include The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Giselle, Patricia Olalde's The Edge and Mikelle Bruzina's Gloria. This is her eighth season with Ballet Quad Cities.  Among the many ballets in which she has danced, her favorites include Bach Suite No.1 in C Major by Deanna Carter, Stravinsky’s Dance Concertantes by Matthew Keefe and Cinderella by Johanne Jakhelln.
